DO NOT LOOK DOWN ON ANYONE (THE CASE OF MUSTARD SEED)

It is glaringly evident that all seeds sprout and become larger plants, shrubs, or trees that bear larger fruits which in turn, contain more seeds. To me, the most amazing of all these seeds is that of mustard. It is one of the smallest seeds known and when planted, becomes one of the “largest and the most productive” plant in the world. That is not just the astonishing thing about the mustard seed: from the seed, Mustard sauce, table mustard – a pungent powder/paste, Mustard greens – a leaf eaten as cooked greens in many Asian countries, Mustard oil – an oil used for making soap, treating arthritis, common cold and rheumatism, Sinapism – a plaster containing black mustard powder applied to the skin as counterirritant are all gotten. In addition to these, The Mustard seed is the source of Mustard agent – a toxic gas that can be used as bio-chemical weapon in warfare due to the fact that it causes blisters on the skin and has no known antidote. I will not be attributing this scenario

DOMINANCE, LESSER EVIL AND BIGGER EVIL

Individual dominance [or even any other dominance that exists in life], is never for a lifetime. Its very clear to all that all the powerful kingdoms that have ruled the world at one epoch at a time or the other, be it Egypt, Greece, Babylonia, Persia and The Roman Empire never held on to it till today, the most powerful nation in the world today will also not hold on to it till eternity. In any other ramifications of life too, be it sports, entertainment or business, there has never been a time any single powerful entity hold on to dominance consistently for a long time because "life is full of ups and down", though a cliche but  entirely true.  One of the most successful football clubs in the world, Liverpool are still waiting since the early 90s to win their first ever Premier League title; Real Madrid has the highest number of Champions League trophy but had to go without one between 2003 and 2013; Anthony Joshua had all the belts apart from one but got knocked out by a

FIFTEEN FOOTBALLERS WHO BROKE INTO LIMELIGHT DURING THE DECADE

During the years of the decade (2010 and 2019), the football world witnessed one of the greatest outturn and upturn of new footballers who were wonderful prospects. This could be attributed to the heavy investments in the Sport due to improved Academies, improved wages and better stadia, alongside the growing competition for silverwares, but this piece would not be dwelling on that. New footballers have emerged from everywhere all around the world be it Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Europe. Nigeria is not left out as players like Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo, Kenneth Omeruwo, Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi all came into limelight during the years.    Kayode Kolade Christopher, a member of The Whistle Sports Group (WSG) takes a look at some of the notable footballers that have so far stood against all odds to break into limelight in the beautiful round leather game. 15. I SALUTE NIGERIANS (2016)

I salute the resilience of the Nigerian populace that are thriving in a nation with double-digit inflation. I salute the perseverance of the AAUA lecturers and several other Nigerian civil servants being owed over six months salaries and arrears. I admire the tenacity of the Nigerian artisans staying out there under the sun everyday to feed their immediate families and even make sure their wards get educated. I salute the doggedness of the unemployed and under-employed youths/graduates going up and down to make sure the future is assured. I salute the prayerfulness of the Mohammed-like and Christ-like Nigerian Muslims and Christians. Venezuela—a country not as corrupt as Nigeria have collapsed recently because the government failed to safe during the oil-boom days; Nigeria—a country so corrupt to the extent that governors ganged up not to pay workers salaries because they want the country's external reserve shared—did not safe during the oil-boom days too but is still a litt

TOGETHERNESS PAYS

The Buffalo (Bison Bison) is a very large and gregarious animal. The male, called “Bull” could weigh up to 2000 lbs. (900 Kg). Within a group, the dominant male takes the leadership role. Remember they are gregarious – rarely would a single Buffalo be sighted grazing alone. The lion female (lioness) is a very fierce animal capable of attacking a herd of Buffalo because of its courage. But unfortunately, the highest weight lions could reach is 420 lbs. (190 Kg) so, it would take at least five fully grown lions to take down a single Buffalo. In addition, the lion might not survive a single stamp from a buffalo because of that weight. The wolf is another fierce carnivore just like lion but not as fast and successful in hunting as lion. A lot of prey would always outrun it. So, to ensure success in hunting, wolves hunt in groups (packs). When one runs and fails to catch the prey, it slows down and another one increases its speed, on and on like that until the prey is caught. The essence

FAREWELL EDEN HAZARD!

To me, as a Chelsea fan, the worst football moment of the 2018/19 season was not the breakdown of Sarri ball, the 6-0 and 4-0 losses to Manchester City and Bournemouth, it was definitely not the departure of TBO Courtois, it was Zinedine Zidane rejoining Real Madrid. I already knew the most talented player I have ever seen played for Chelsea, Eden Hazard was Madrid-bound, not because it is the player’s dream but because Zizou is his idol and once said he would bring him to Real Madrid with his eyes closed! After an illustrious time with his boyhood club, LOSC Lille, Eden Hazard joined Chelsea in the summer of 2012. His influence on the pitch was immediately felt as the little Belgian magician required no time to adapt to the pacey, physical and kick-follow style of football in England. Even, the least objective of spectators will never dispute the fact that Eden Hazard is the number one dribbler of his time in England, one of the fastest and the most productive creator of chances. RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM

Was not Jesus an extremist for love…Was not Amos an extremist for justice…Was not Martin Luther an extremist…So the question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be. Will we be extremists for hate or for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice or for the extension of justice?  – Martin Luther King Jnr. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines extremism as a belief in and support for ideas that are very far from what most people consider correct or reasonable. In the Wordweb Dictionary and Thesaurus, extremism is defined as any political theory favoring immoderate uncompromising policies. Extremism is synonymous to radicalism, and anyone who subscribes to its theory is called an extremist and said to be radical. Religious extremism is therefore an immoderate religious belief that defies norm, or more precisely, unjust, barbaric actions such as killing, maiming, deliberate destruction of properties perpetrated in the name of Go

NO TO HATE ALL OVER

The Hate U Give “Little Infants” Fucks Everybody. – TuPac Shakur The children of the poor you refuse to train will not let your children have peace. – Obafemi Awolowo According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “Hate” is an extreme dislike or disgust. Wordweb Dictionary and Thesaurus describes Hate as the emotion of intense dislike; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action. I have always described hatred [Hate] as an emotional disease. Hate goes beyond the feeling that arise from anger, fear, or senses of physical, mental, spiritual, racial or sexual damage; it goes deeper to mal-administration, impunity, social inequality, corruption, religious hypocrisy and treachery. The late TuPac Shakur used to have a tattoo on his belly that reads “THUG LIFE”. What comes to mind when a lot see this is "this guy is a thug and sympathizer of violence", but “THUG LIFE” is an acronym for “The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody”. Literally, this means whatever bad

DEFENDING A HOME: THE HIPPO BULL TERRITORIAL BEHAVIOUR AS A CASE STUDY

The Hippopotamus is the third largest land animal after elephant and white rhinoceros. It is an herbivorous, semi-aquatic animal limited to Sub-Sahara Africa for centuries now. The animal is semi-aquatic because during the day, it stays in its freshwater environment (Rivers, lakes, wetlands or streams) and by dusk, goes out to graze on short grasses. Initially, a considerable number lives around The Nile in North Africa, but the animal is now extinct in the region. Today, The Hippo is a vulnerable species because of its meat and canine made of ivory. In African regions where they are found, Hippos account for the highest number of human deaths from animals!  One distinctive feature of The Hippopotamus is territoriality. Here, a male (bull) presides over a stretch of the freshwater containing 5 - 40 others which is a combination of females (cows), juveniles and calves. Mating is a sole responsibility of the dominant bull even if the cows are up to 30 within the group (bloat). Other b

LEAH SHARIBU IS STILL MISSING

Some reports have surfaced on the internet about the death of Leah Sharibu, the only girl yet to be released out of the 106 kidnapped from a school in Dapchi, Northern Nigeria on 19th February 2019. One of them reads: "Dearly Beloved, THIS SAD NEWS BROKE MY HEART TODAY Leah Sharibu Is Dead The only Christian girl, Leah Sharibu who remained in the dreaded Boko Haram camp after being abducted early last year is dead. A family source who pleaded anonymity confirmed this to BZ PROGRAM today. The source said "We knew Leah was already dead but were under pressure to remain mute until after this presidential election, in order to protect the president's image. Source: BZ PROGRAM President Buhari and his followers are going about campaigning and rejoiching while no one dare to ask him and he refused to say a word about Leah Sharibu release. That tells you how insincere the conscience of the average Nigerian Christian is. I knew that Oby Ekwesilieze had something she wa

I WANT TO SHARE TWO LIFE LESSONS

I WANT TO SHARE TWO LIFE LESSONS 1. BUILD A GOOD REPUTATION Reputation goes a long way in life. I will draw example from the cases of two women who once served as ministers in Nigeria: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Diezani Alisson-Madueke. Since the Obasanjo regime between 1999 and 2007, Nigerians know Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to be a brilliant, virtuous, hardworking and progressive woman. She served as the minister for finance during the regime and was reappointed to the same ministry as a minister during Goodluck Jonathan's time. The second woman, Diezani Alisson-Madueke worked with President Goodluck Jonathan in the NNPC and Petroleum ministry. During the period, the petroleum ministry and NNPC were sites of corruption and "looting extravaganza" in particular. So, majority of Nigerians know Alisson-Madueke as a bad, corrupt and a woman of dubious character. Close to the end of the Jonathan regime and after, both women faced troubles: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was accused of corrupt

THE ORIGIN OF YORUBA PEOPLE (INHABITANTS OF SOUTHWESTERN NIGERIA)

The Yoruba people are the inhabitants of the Southwestern geo-political zone of Nigeria. A considerable number of the people are found in the northern region—precisely Kogi and Kwara states—some are also "the aborigines' of a part of Benin Republic. Today, many Yoruba speaking people are found in Brazil because their ancestors were victims of the Portuguese's slave trade which started in the fifteenth century. If not for the efforts of Granville Sharp, Thomas Clarkson and William Wilberforce—the men who led a body of Englishmen that laboured to convert the parliament then to their efforts of getting slave trade eradicated—the Yoruba nation would have almost been totally depopulated before the nineteenth century. Today, the states inhabited by the Yoruba people in Nigeria are all the Southwestern states—Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Lagos states. A lot of people [and scholars] have given their accounts of the origin of the Yoruba people. One of them is the legend whic

THE SARRI'S NAPOLI AND SARRI'S CHELSEA

Maurizio Sarri was hired by Chelsea last summer to replace Antonio Conte. What led the Chelsea board to acquire Sarri’s service should be clear to a regular football lover – the Italian managed one of the most exciting teams in Europe throughout the 2017/18 season. Napoli was definitely the most organized team in the Serie A last season, in fact Juventus was no match for them in that aspect – this was evident when they defeated Juve away from home during the season. Sarri started brightly in the premier league but after Chelsea’s home game against Everton in the league [which ended in a goaless draw], the Chelsea fan base and pundits all around The UK started casting doubts on Sarri ball! All teams started using the “stop-Jorginho-you-stop-Chelsea approach”. This is because Jorginho plays the pivot role in Sarri ball, up till now he has the highest number of passes in the Premier league (2,077). A lot of fans blame Jorginho for his lack of defensive ability, but personally, I am not

GEORGE WEAH: A VICTIM OF RACIAL ABUSE FROM A FELLOW FOOTBALLER(?)

No one would ever expect whoever would be the first native African Balon D'or recipient to come from a lowly football nation like Liberia since there are Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroun and Egypt that have been deeply involved in the game since the 60's. This is the case of George Weah. The story began when Cameroon national team coach, Claude Le Roy contacted Arsene Wenger he had discovered an impressive young footballer playing for a certain club in the country. Arsene flew down to Cameroon himself and did not hesitate to recruit the young man for his then club, AS Monaco. After recording successful spells in France with Monaco and PSG, AC Milan acquired George Weah and then history was made – he was awarded The Balon D'or, FIFA World player of the year, Onze D'or and African footballer of the year all in a single season. He was known for his humility, fair play, technical and physical frontman ability and his humanitarian efforts on and off the pitch. In a match against
