DEMOCRACY OR DEMOGREEDY? It is another democracy day! The special day in Nigeria that commemorates the transition from military to civilian rule in 1999 when Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar handed over the affairs of the country to the soldier turned civilian, Olusegun Obasanjo [now Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo]. A perfect definition was given to democracy by the late Abraham Lincoln that "democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people". Nigerian leaders claim our country is a democratic one; apparently, we achieved democracy on May 29 1999 but the question is: do we practice true democracy in Nigeria? I mean are we truly democratic? Having a system of government in which the three arms—executive, judiciary and legislature—are all represented is one of the basic attributes of democracy but does it end there? A lot of people today believe all those who do go to church to attend mass/services are Christians. Taking a deep look at the phenomenon, almost all those who do go to church to observe services are not Christians! Majority fall to the category i call 'Church-goers'; others, 'God-fearers' and a few, Christians. Talking about the Church-goers, they are those who attend church services for the sake of attending. They do not really care to ask for God's forgiveness whenever they commit sins, they never proselytise, a lot of them go to church to show off what they got, they do not make bible their watchword, a lot of them never pray; suprisingly, some of them might be Polytheists! They say "Christianity" when you ask for their religion but are never Christians! As far as the God-fearers are concerened, they are the ones who do not proselytise—preach the Gospel and gain souls—but obey the first commandment and every other commandments. I remember when i got home during a vacation months ago, i didn't like the condition of the compound so i started complaining—almost ranting like a toddler displaying tantrum. I continued complaining for days until my mum asked: what have you done to improve the condition of the compound since the last two days? Why can't you  yourself get some things done? Immediately a "lag" came into me and when it was time to sleep at night i couldn't do so on time—i was reflecting on those two questions i was asked. Next morning i started doing a lot to get things back to the conditions they were. Those two questions are apllicable to all the commoners in Nigeria. You all complain about the situation of the country but what are the actions you are taking to make things right? DEBATE: ELEVEN REASONS WHY MUSLIMS SHOULD BECOME CHRISTIANS I am not a preacher nor a religion fanatic and i don't have a personal problem with Islam but i have studied Christians, Muslims, Christianity and Islam satisfactorily so i decided to come up with this piece. Read carefully without bias and make comments if you want to. 1. It is certain that Jesus is higher in the hierarchy of the prophets (Muslims don't believe he is the son of God so lets refer to him as prophet in that context) than Mohammed (SAW) 2. THEY GOT THEM KILLED BECAUSE OF BLASPHEMY AGAINST MOHAMMED Blasphemy, as they claimed those people committed, is it not forgivable? Many of them (Muslims) have claimed they follow Isa Mahsid (Jesus Christ) than we Christians; if they really do, definitely they should know about Mathew Chapter 12:31-32 which states thus: wherefore I say unto you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men. Still, the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
